Board of Public Works to Hear Cornell Bridge Update

Board of Public Works members will hear from Cornell University representatives update the progress made toward placing suicide prevention netting on bridges owned by the city and school. The update for the BPW will preview Cornell’s Nov. 22 appearance before the Planning and Development, which must approve the changes.

Wednesday preview will be just the latest step in a lengthy process aimed at constructing “means restriction” barriers against potential suicides from bridges overlooking area gorges. Recently, two issues — the appearance of the netting and who would foot the costs — appear to have been overcome. The board will also vote on whether to sell a number of city properties in an effort to raise much-needed cash. The Board of Public Works meets at 4:45 pm Wednesday om the third floor of City Hall, 108 East Green Street.
